· Toil and Tenderness ·

My use of photography stands as an ode to romantic resilience, woven with threads of folklore, familial bonds and the looming specter of industrial progression within the Midwest. Rooted in the simplicity of familiar rural settings, my artistic lens captures the essence of a world where the mystical and the mundane are embedded in the ordinary. Magic realism becomes a vehicle for me to explore the profound reciprocity of humanity with nature. It allows me to portray the land not merely as a backdrop but as a sentient character, with its own energy and secrets. Through a soft attention to detail and a painterly photographic approach, I invite viewers to contemplate the boundaries between the known and the imagined; the balance that elevates acts of toil and tenderness into a poetic narrative that resonates across time. I mythologize myself, the influences of my family, and the weather-beaten land where I grew up–capturing their various flaws and gifts as protection to each delicacy that I continue to learn from.
